He gave an explanation of zhengming to one of his disciples :

• If names be not correct, language is not in accordance with the truth of things.
• If language be not in accordance with the truth of things, affairs cannot be carried on to success.
• When affairs cannot be carried on to success, proprieties and music do not flourish.
• When proprieties and music do not flourish, punishments will not be properly awarded.
• When punishments are not properly awarded, the people do not know how to move hand or foot.

Therefore a superior man considers it necessary that the names he uses may be spoken appropriately, and also that what he speaks may be carried out appropriately.

What the superior man requires is just that in his words there may be nothing incorrect." (Analects XIII, 3, tr. Legge)

Caodaism is believed to have been established by God and was officially inaugurated in 1926. However, some senior dignitaries disobeyed the Sacerdotal Council and left, holding their own seances and ordinations and becoming Caodaist sects.

The Eighth Caodai's Act declared that all sects were against Caodaist Constitution and that they were false religions.

Between 1928 and 1934 there were five major sects although this figure has been controversial:

• 1. Chiếu Minh (1927)
• 2. Cầu Kho (1930)
• 3. Minh Chơn Lý (1931)
• 4. Tiên Thiên (1932)
• 5. Ban Chỉnh Ðạo Bến Tre (1934).

From these, more sects emerged later. Mr Gabriel Gobron, divinely ordained as Tiếp Dẫn Ðạo Nhơn, in Histoire et Philosophie du Caodaisme, published 1949, confirmed there were 11 sects. Mr Huệ Lương Trần Văn Quế said there were 15 sects in 1963.

There have been lots of attempts to reunite the sects, but so far no positive results have been recorded.

  Bởi vậy, một mảy không sai, dữ lành đều có trả. Lại nữa, Chơn linh ấy có tánh Thánh nơi mình, chẳng phải gìn giữ các con mà còn dạy dỗ nữa, thường nghe đời gọi lộn "Lương tâm" là đó.

•  1. DIVINE SOUL :

  Like I said, I (God) have a divine soul keep your body alive. Needless to say, you know the divine soul is absolutely fair and can communicate with Angels, Saints, Immortals, and Buddhas as well as the Sinless in Ngọc Hư Cung.

  The divine soul records exactly what you have done for the Court of Judgement. Therefore, no sinners can make a getaway. Moreover, the soul not only protects but also educates you, so it is supposedly called "conscience".

  Chơn thần là gì? là Nhị xác thân, là xác thân thiêng liêng. Khi còn ở nơi xác phàm thì khó xuất riêng ra đặng, bị xác phàm kéo níu.

  Cái Chơn thần ấy của các Thánh, Tiên, Phật là huyền diệu vô cùng, bất tiêu bất diệt. Bậc chơn tu khi còn xác phàm nơi mình, như đắc đạo có thể xuất ra trước buổi chết mà vân du Thiên ngoại. Cái Chơn thần ấy mới đặng phép đến trước mặt Thầy.

•  2. SPIRITUAL BODY :

  What is spiritual body? It is your second body. When you are alive, it hardly leaves your body, whose has a very powerful attraction to it.

  The spiritual bodies of Angels, Saints, Immortals, and Buddhas are miraculous, everlasting and indestructible. A true priest, who achieves the religious goal before death, can have his spiritual body leave and travel around. Such a spiritual body is allowed to see Me (God).

God's codes have been determined as Love and the true doctrine as Justice. Codes and doctrine have been determined, but no one has observed. If humans observed it, life would be really excellent and there would be no more killing or suffering.

The title of a senior Caodai dignitary in the Nine-Level Tower, lower than Giáo Tông (Caodaist Head).

There are three Chưởng Pháp, who are responsible for religious laws. There were four Chưởng Pháp, who died all. Presently, there are no Chưởng Pháp in Caodaism (2015).

Chưởng (chủng) qua đắc qua, chưởng đậu đắc đậu   

Growing water melon, you get water melon. Growing bean, you get bean.(Literally). This expression refers to Karma, the principle of cause and effect in Buddhism. 

Chưởng thiện quả ư thi thơ chi phố  

Growing good plants in the garden of literature (Literrally). This is a verse in the Confucianism Prayer, meaning: Confucius wrote books to teach humans righteousness.
