Guidelines for Practice

During practice, the mind must remain calm and serene; thoughts should focus entirely on the exercises, avoiding all distractions.

Perform the twelve exercises as if engaging in a session of meditative cultivation.

  •  Breathing (Qi cultivation) must be even, slow, deep, gentle, and soft.

It is sufficient to direct the breath deeply into the lower abdomen (Lower Elixir Field, Đơn Điền), using the mind to guide the energy, while allowing all other bodily responses to occur naturally.

Hold the breath for approximately five seconds, as instructed by His Holiness Phạm Hộ Pháp, which is appropriate for this method; do not extend the breath beyond this duration.

  •  The guiding practices (massage) generally produce minimal adverse reactions. The overarching principle is to perform them slowly, evenly, and gently, according to one’s own capacity.

  •  Physical exercises (tendon and muscle movements):

Movements should be deliberate and unhurried, avoiding haste or abruptness.

If any part of the body is unwell, avoid exercises affecting that area — for example, do not perform thyroid stimulation if suffering from a goiter, and avoid movements involving tendons or bones affected by acute conditions.

For chronic or lingering ailments, or discomfort triggered by changes in weather, these exercises are highly beneficial.

  •  Movements involving the cervical vertebrae must be performed very slowly, evenly, and gently, without exceeding one’s tolerance, to avoid headaches, dizziness, or nausea.
